Health Assessments

Mapping your path to better health begins by gathering complete information about your health risks and conditions. The Weinstein Center for Recreation and Wellness offers the following assessments to its members to help them learn more about their health.

Blood Pressure

Regular blood pressure checks are the only way to tell if you have high blood pressure since it often creeps up slowly without any warning. Watch for free blood pressure screenings throughout the semester.

Cholesterol Screenings

Do you know what your cholesterol levels are? High cholesterol is one of the major controllable risk factors for coronary artery disease, heart attack, and stroke. Watch for free cholesterol screenings throughout the semester.

Metabolic Testing

The campus dietician offers metabolic testing that measures a person’s resting metabolic rate, which will determine exactly how many calories a person needs to consume to maintain, lose, or gain weight. This test requires you to relax and breathe into a mouthpiece for about 10 minutes.

Preparing for the test requires the following:

  1. Nothing to eat or drink (except water) for at least four hours prior to the test.
  2. Avoid exercising at least 18 hours before the test.
  3. Avoid drinking caffeine on the day of the test.
