    Sarah is a person in recovery from substance use disorder who has worked in the field since 2020, when she was hired to help open the CARITAS Healing Place for Women treatment center in south Richmond as a peer recovery specialist. She holds a B.A. in political science with a concentration in civil rights from Virginia Commonwealth University, but primarily worked in the news industry as a staff writer, assistant editor and freelancer since graduating in 2017. You may have seen her bylines in Richmond or Virginia Business Magazines, Style Weekly or the Chesterfield Observer. Sarah is also a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher who is certified to facilitate Y12SR (the Yoga of 12 Step Recovery) focusing on a trauma-informed approach to the practice. She has completed a 50-hour intensive Meridian Yoga Therapy training, which is grounded in practices of Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupressure, and is certified to administer ear seeds and the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association’s five-point ear protocol. Sarah is also a certified NARCAN trainer with the Dept. of Behavior Health and Human Services. In her spare time, Sarah loves being outside and exploring new places!
