Marieka received her Bachelors of Science in Communication Studies from James Madison University and her Masters of Education in Counselor Education from Virginia Commonwealth University. Before joining the University of Richmond Health Promotion Team, Marieka was the Health & Well-Being Coordinator for Residential Life at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). In this role, she implemented & facilitated programming around the intersectionality of race & mental health, healthy relationships/boundary setting, sexual health, goal setting, self-care strategies, & holistic wellness. In her current role as the Health Educator, some of her duties include: collaborating with the Health Promotion team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of education and awareness programs for students, faculty and staff. Developing, implementing, teaching, and monitoring the university graduation requirement for wellness education. And providing direct oversight to the Wellness Education Bandits.
Marieka is passionate about using different art forms for wellness advocacy & education. She is a spoken word poet and uses poetry as a tool to discuss various topics such as mental health.
